Siargao is accessible by air from Cebu and by boat from the similarly named port of Surigao on northern Mindanao and is best known as one of the world’s top surfing destinations, often attracting rock 'n' roll icons, surfing celebrities and the like.

SIARGAO

However with some truly stunning beaches, interesting rock formations and idyllic lagoons, kayaking, kite surfing, deep sea fishing, great diving and snorkelling, you certainly won’t need a surfboard to enjoy this delightful and scenic pristine heaven.

The island’s premier attraction for surfers is the southeastern Cloud 9 beach, famous for its awesome hollow tube waves, and for those with the aspiration but without the surfing knowledge, all the resorts here helpfully offer schooling.

Cloud 9 is an all year round surf destination, but is at its busiest (and most expensive) during June to October when the waves are at their best and the annual surfing competitions of the Filipino Cup and the Siargao Cup take place.

Because of the crowds at Cloud 9 during this period, many surfers seek out other top quality breaks further up the coast such as nearby Tuason’s Point, Rock Island, Pacifico, Pilar and Burgos, or at the offshore islands of La Janosa, Mamon, Antokan and Anajauan.

For non-surfers, or indeed those wishing a relaxing break from wave riding, there are some great beaches and interesting features of appeal both around Siargao and offshore.

One of the island’s most appealing attractions is Magpupungko beach and tidal pool, situated further north up the east coast close to Pilar, a crystalline natural salt water pool surrounded by shapely rocky outcrops.

Offshore from Siargao, divine and near deserted beaches can be found on the island of Dako, or you could try out the extraordinary perfection of the tiny white sand encircled, palm-topped classic desert island of Guyam.

The twin islands of La Janosa have two delicious white beaches facing each other, with the channel in between a snorkeler’s paradise, while another absolute delight is Naked Island, a stunning sandbar surrounded by blue beauty.

BUCAS GRANDE

Further away from Siargao, and the focus of popular day excursions, the amazing seascape of Sohoton Cove and Lagoon, on the island of Bucas Grande, offers spectacular marine scenery, water level caves, and brilliant snorkelling, kayaking and swimming.
