Highlights of the Dragon Kingdom 12 Days

TOUR PROGRAMME

Day 1:
Arriving at Paro Airport, you’ll be met and driven to a local restaurant for lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Weekend Market and Paro Dzong, before checking-in to your hotel.
Day 2:
Today, you’ll travel over Chele La Pass, at an altitude of 3,900 metres (12,795 feet), which, with fair weather, provides the remarkable view of the 7,314 m Himalayan peak of Mount Jomolhari, before descending into the Haa valley, exploring the scenery and local culture of this beautiful landscape, before returning to Paro for the night.
Day 3:
In the morning, you’ll be driven to Thimpu, and check-in to your hotel, before a sightseeing tour of the country’s capital city, including visits to the Memorial Chorten, the Zorig Chosum Painting Institute, Folk Heritage Museum and Dupthob Lhakhang.
Day 4:
After breakfast, you’ll travel over Dochu La pass, at an altitude of 3,100 metres (10,170 feet), before descending through the rhododendron forests to Punakha, and your next hotel. After lunch, you’ll have a short hike to the temple of Chimi Lhakhang.
Day 5:
Today, you’ll travel to Jakar, visiting the Wangduephodrang Dzong and passing through Trongsa and over the Yutong La Pass, at an altitude of 3,400 metres (11,155 feet), before descending into the Bumthang Valley and on to Jakar and your hotel.
Day 6:
In the morning, you’ll have a hike through the Himalayan countryside landscape and forest to Tharpaling Monastery, where you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch before the drive back to your hotel.
Day 7:
Today, you’ll have a sightseening tour of the valley, visitin Jambay Lhakhang, one of the 108 Himalayan temples of legend, set up to protect the land from paranormal forces, of which only 3 now remain. Later you’ll visit Kurjey Lhakhang, Jakar Dzong and have a short hike to Tamzhing Monastery.
Day 8:
This morning, you’ll visit Ta Dzong before your return journey to your Panakha Hotel.
Day 9:
Today you’ll have a trek through rice paddies and pine forest to visit Khamsaum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. Later. You’ll visit Punakha Dzong, a private temple in Khuruthang, and try your hand at archery, Bhutan’s national sport.
Day 10:
In the morning, you’ll leave Punakha for the return journey to Paro and check-in to your hotel. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the National Museum of Bhutan.
Day 11:
Today, you’ll hike to Taktsang Monastery, more widely known as the ‘Tigers Nest’ and one of the country’s most iconic and scenic landmarks.
Day 12:
In the morning, you’ll be driven to the airport for your onward or departure flight.
