Cambodia in summer 8 Days

View attached tour

Day 1:
Upon arrival at Phnom Penh, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel for check in. The rest of the evening will be your free time, and you’ll spend the night in Phnom Penh.

Day 2:
After breakfast, visit Cambodia’s Royal Palace, which stands majestically in the city centre just off the riverfront area. Several buildings are open to visitors, including the ‘Silver Pagoda’ whose floor is lined with solid silver tiles. Continue to the hilltop pagoda Wat Phnom, for which the capital was named. Climb the stairs to the top of the hill for fabulous views over the city. Then visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Cheung Ek Killing Fields Memorial, for a sense of the tragedy which befell Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge regime. Returning to your hotel, you’ll have the remainder of the day free for souvenir shopping, sightseeing or to spend as you wish. You’ll spend the night in Phnom Penh.
Day 3:
After breakfast, drive from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to relax before heading to the pier to board your boat, departing for Koh Rong Island at 14h00, a trip of around 1hr. Upon arrival the hotel staff will greet you and help you check in, and the rest of evening will be your leisure time. An a la cart dinner menu is available at the hotel restaurant, and you’ll spend the night on Koh Rong Island. Until recently largely overlooked by the tourist trade, Sihanoukville is a revelation. About 240km from Phnom Penh, the city itself is not that attractive, but once you get past the industrial cluster of the deepwater port and head east along the coast, you find four main beaches which get better as you go. By the time you reach Sokha Beach, you find a classic tropical strand – soft white sand, gentle limpid waves and palm trees. Skipping the long first half of Ochheuteal Beach (good, but lined with shanty shelters), you arrive at the top of the Queens Hill promontory with stunning views of seemingly endless beaches in both directions.

Day 4:
Your time will be free to enjoy at leisure! Your accommodation will be on Koh Rong Island.

Day 5:
Another free day on Koh Rong.
Day 6:
After breakfast, leave Koh Rong Island by speedboat at 11am for Sihanoukville, where you will transfer to Sihanoukville Airport for your flight to Siem Reap (flight schedule to be advised). Upon arrival, you’ll be picked up and transferred to your hotel for check in. After time to relax and refresh yourself, you’ll be picked up for an evening performance by ‘Phare, the Cambodian Circus’. The professional artists of Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPS) put on an inspiring show suitable for people of all ages. Set up in Battambang in 1994 by young Cambodians returning from refugee camps who learned about using art as a means of coping with trauma, PPS has played an influential role in promoting and developing Khmer culture over the years since the Khmer Rouge genocide. The hour long show mixes traditional and modern theatre, music, dance, acrobatics, juggling and contortion, presenting a story about Cambodian lives and society. Student performances can still be seen twice weekly in Battambang, but now the circus has arrived in Siem Reap! After the show, return to your hotel and spend the night in Siem Reap.

Day 7:
Upon meeting your guide, you will be able to discuss in detail what you are looking to achieve from your time at the Angkor temples. Whilst some wish to explore as many temples as possible during their stay, others like to travel at a slower, more relaxed pace. Along with including any specific temples on your wish list, with the assistance of your experienced guide, you will be able to dictate the amount of time and the hours of the day you are at the temples. You will spend the night in Siem Reap.
Temples in focus in a day:
Start with Sunrise at Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat – certainly the most famous of all the Angkor temples and, some would argue the most impressive. The temple, built in the early 12th century by King Suryavarman II, contains three storeys of libraries, galleries and towers surrounded by a thick retaining wall and an imposing moat. Many visitors aim to visit the temple at sunrise to capture one of the most iconic Angkor photos.
Ta Prohm - a temple left in much the same condition as when it was found - creating one of the most photogenic and atmospheric scenes of the entire Angkor site. The roots of enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers can be seen breaking through the walls and stone carvings. Any visit is truly an adventure.
The Bayon - built in the 13th century as the state temple of King Jayavarman VII, standing at the centre of his capital - Angkor Thom. The Bayon’s most distinctive feature is the multitude of huge faces carved into large towers, which rise up to form a central peak. The Bayon sits at the exact centre of Angkor Thom and roads lead to it from each of the city's cardinal points.
Banteay Srei - one of the most unusual and widely recognisable temples of Angkor. Built largely of red sandstone, it is covered with elaborate and deeply carved decoration. All the buildings are miniature in scale and it is this, along with the beautiful carvings, which have made it such a popular temple.
Day 8:
After breakfast, your guide and driver will bring you to visit Tonle Sap Lake. Take a boat ride to a fishing village to observe the local lifestyle. The size of this lake expands by a magnitude of up to six times each year because of the seasonal monsoons. Your next stop is Les Artisans d’Angkor, a workshop that teaches the unique craft of wood and stone carving in the traditional style of classic Cambodian artistry. You can browse a market afterward. Your driver will then transfer you to Siem Reap Airport for your departing flight.
