Day 1:
Arriving at Vientiane airport, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel, with time to settle in and relax before a short orientation walk of the Lao capital and a sunset amble of the riverfront before your welcome dinner.
Day 2:
In the morning, you’ll visit the cultural and historic highlights of Vientiane. In the afternoon, you’ll be driven to the airport for your flight to Luang Namtha in the far north of the country, where you’ll be driven to check-in at the Boat Landing Guesthouse.
Day 3:
In the morning, you’ll be driven to Ban Nam Yang to begin your four hour trek through the forest, with a hilltop lunch followed by a visit to the village of Nam Yang, to observe the Akha way of life and meet an Akha hunter, who will demonstrate his bird-calling skills. Later you’ll visit Nam Ngaen, a village of Black Tai people famed for their whiskey making before returning to guesthouse.
Day 4:
Today, you’ll travel to the Lanten village of Ban Namleu to begin your six hour trek through the hilly forested countryside to Ban Nalan Tai, on the banks of the Nam Ha River, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 5:
A five hour trek following the course of the Nam Ha River breaks for a forest picnic before a bamboo raft crossing into the Nam Ha National Protected Area, passing through its primary forest and looking for wildlife. For your return to Luang Namtha, you’ll have a choice of motor boat or pick-up truck.
Day 6:
Today you’ll be driven through the mountain scenery to Pakbeng for your stay in the Pakbeng Lodge, overlooking the Mekong River.
Day 7:
Today, your drive will take you through unspoilt forests and local villages to visit Pak Ou Cave, and its ensemble of Buddha images, before travelling on to Luang Prabang, once a Laotian capital.
Day 8:
In the morning, you’ll have a guided tour of the charming UNESCO World Heritage City. In the afternoon a climb up the delightful stepped walkway to the top of Mount Phousi unveils superb views over the picturesque area from its gilded stupa and shrines.
Day 9:
An early rise will find you on the streets for the famous ritual alms-giving procession, before breakfast and mounting your bicycle for your pedal into the surrounding coutryside to Kuang Si Waterfall, where you can joyfully splash around in its pretty pools and wader the forest trails. Later, you’ll be driven to visit Ban Phanom weaving village.
Day 10:
After breakfast a drive through the spectacular craggy landscape to Vang Vieng, the adventure playground of Laos.
Day 11:
A visit to the venerated ‘Cave of the Golden Crab’, precedes a 32 km mountain bike excursion through the steep rugged landscape, visiting Tham Poukham cave, and onward through the narrow Houay San valley and the villages of Phonxay and Ban Nathong Tai along the Nam Khouang River, before returning to Vang Vieng.
Day 12:
In the morning, you’ll be driven southward to Vientiane. After check-in to your hotel, you’ll visit Buddha Park and the Friendship Bridge.
Day 13:
Your time will be free until your driver takes you to the airport for you onward or departure flight.
