Arriving at Paro Airport, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel, with time to settle in and relax before an afternoon visit to Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower now housing the National Museum.
Day 2:
Today, you’ll have a warm-up hike for around three hours, to visit Bhutan’s most iconic monastery, at Taktsang, the legendary Tiger’s Nest, an important and stupendously scenic feature of Bhutan’s early history.
Day 3:
Today, you’ll begin your trek, with an easy five hour walk, leaving from Drukyel Dzong, once the guardian fortress of the Paro Valley, and passing through villages along an unpaved road along the Pachu River and gradually ascending through blue pine trees to Zakhapang and on to your campsite at Shana at an elevation of 2, 820 metres (9,252 feet).
Day 4:
After breakfast, you’ll trek for around eight hours, ascending further through Blue Pines and Oaks, travelling along the riverside and crossing simple wooden bridges to your campsite, at an altitude of 3,750 metres (12,303 feet), overlooked by the majestic Himalayan peak Mount Jomolhari.
Day 5:
Your trek continues with a more leisurely 4 hour hike to Jangothang Base Camp at an altitude of 4,050 metres (13,287 feet).
Day 6:
Today, you’ll enjoy a relaxing altitude acclimatisation day, enjoying the fine mountain views.
Day 7:
Today’s seven and a half hour trek takes you to the highest point of the route at Bonte La Pass at a height 4,890 metres (16,043 feet) above sea level, and a great spot for a picnic lunch with views of Kanchenjunga, at 8,586 metres (28,169 feet) the world’s third highest peak among many other mountain views. Descending from the pass, you’ll enter the steep sided Soi Yaksa valley and your camp at Dhumzo at an altitude of 3,800 metres (12,467 feet).
Day 8:
Today’s five and a half hour trek ascends through rhododendron, birch and oak forest to the high point at Dhunge (4,700 metres (15,420 feet) with views on Kanchenjunga, Jomolhari, Jitchu Drake, Teri Kang and Makalu before descending to Thombu camp at 4,150 metres (13,615 feet).
Day 9:
Another 5 and a half hours of trekking brings you to Thombu La Pass at 4,270 Metres (14,009 feet) with fine mountain views again filling the vistas, before the steep descent down to the valley, and the return drive to Paro, and your hotel.
Day 10:
Today, you’ll travel to Thimpu and your next hotel, with a sightseeing tour of the capital, including visits to the Memorial Chorten, The National Library, Traditional Medicine Centre, the Zorig Chosum Painting Institute, and Tashichho Dzong.
Day 11:
This morning, you’ll drive across the Dochula Pass, with views over the Bhutanese Himalaya, before descending to Punakha and your hotel, with an afternoon visit to Punakha Dzong.
Day 12:
Today, you’ll be driven back to Paro, visiting Drugyel Dzong and Kyichu Temple, one of only three surviving examples of the fabled 108 temples enshrined in Himalayan legend.
Day 13:
