Hiking and Helping in Vietnam 14 Days

TOUR PROGRAMME

Day 1:
Arriving at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel, with time to settle in and relax before your welcome dinner and an evening performance of traditional water puppetry.
Day 2:
A whole day guided tour of Vietnam’s capital, visits the historic and cultural highlights of the city. In the evening, you’ll be driven to Hanoi railway station for the overnight sleeper train to Lao Cai.
Day 3:
Arriving in the early morning, you’ll be met and driven into the mountains to the highland town of Sapa. After breakfast, you’ll dive through the beautiful scenery Ban Ho, a Tay ethnic minority village, where you’ll meet your hosts and help them in their tasks to discover their way of life. An afternoon hike of your surroundings will visit Nave waterfall, before returning to the village to enjoy the traditional music and dances of the Tay and Red Dzao people, before retiring to your village stilt house.
Day 4:
After a morning hike, you’ll enjoy lunch before taking part in the village sports of archery, tug-of-war, and one-legged racing, before travelling to an H’mong minority village for the night.
Day 5:
After breakfast, you’ll plant a tree for the local reforestation project and spend the morning with the villagers, helping with daily tasks. In the afternoon, you’ll return to Sapa and onward to Lao Cai for the return sleeper journey back to Hanoi.
Day 6:
After your early morning arrival, you’ll be driven to your Hanoi hotel, with the rest of the day free to spend in your own style.
Day 7:
In the morning, you’ll be driven southwest through mountain scenery to Mai Chau and on to Lac village, inhabited by a Thai ethnic group, where you’ll have lunch in a stilt house, before a wander among the daily scenes and learning to weave their brocade. Later, you’ll be driven to the Ma River for a 15km sampan journey downstream, visiting communities and stopping at Hang village, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 8:
In the morning, you’ll stroll the Thai village visiting the families and drinking green tea, before a hike to the upland Eo Ken village and lunch. Later, you’ll be driven to Kho Muong village, again spending the night in a stilt house.
Day 9:
After breakfast, you’ll visit an interesting local cave, before spending the day hiking through the forested landscape passing through villages and enjoying a picnic along the way. You’ll spend the night in a stilt house.
Day 10:
In the morning, you’ll be driven to a local market, to enjoy the gathering, before continuing the drive through the countryside to see the waterwheels of the Muong people and enjoy a short walk to Cam Thuy’s ‘sacred fish stream’, before journeying back to Hanoi.
Day 11:
After breakfast, you’ll be taken to the airport for your flight to Danang, visiting the museum devoted to the ancient pre-Vietnamese Cham civilisation, before travelling on to Hoi An, checking into your hotel, before an afternoon tour of the delightful UNESCO World Heritage town.
Day 12:
This morning, you’ll cycle the narrow countryside roads, enjoying the scenes of daily life, before boarding a boat to the mouth of the Thu Bon estuary and along the coastline to watch the fishermen at work, whom you’ll join to try your hand at catching fish in their traditional Thung Chai basket boat, before the cycle back to your hotel.
Day 13:
Your time will be free at leisure to enjoy Hoi An and its nearby beaches in your own style.
Day 14:
In the morning, you’ll be taken to the airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City and your onward connection or departure flight.
