Cruising the Upper Mekong 11 Days

TOUR PROGRAMME

Day 1:
Arrival at Thailand’s Chiang Khong Airport; meet guide and cross Mekong River to Laos, board boat and cruise down-river to Pakbeng, visit a local hill tribe market.
Day 2:
From Pakbeng, cruise past forests and fishing villages, view thousands of Buddha images in Pak-Ou Caves and enjoy a fine dinner in the former royal capital Luang Prabang.
Day 3:
Visit Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Mai, the day market, scenic shrines atop Mount Phousi, and close your day at Luang Prabang’s atmospheric night market.
Day 4:
Rise early to witness the local custom of alms-giving to monks, then cycle to the serenely refreshing Kuangsi Waterfall and visit the weaving village of Ban Phanom.
Day 5:
Fly to Vientiane and see the city’s attractions on a walking tour, including Wat Sisaket, Wat Prakeo, Luang Stupa and Patuxay Monument – Vientiane’s Arc de Triomphe.
Day 6:
Take early flight to Pakse, board your floating boutique hotel, the Vat Phou cruise, enjoy a riverside lunch in Champassak, explore the remarkable 10th century temple Wat Phou, take in the sunset while cruising downriver and spend the night on board.
Day 7:
Cruise to Huei Thamo Village and visit Oum Moung Temple, then continue to the 4,000 Islands area to explore life in traditional villages, overnight on board.
Day 8:
Cruise to Veuthong Village, then board a small long-tail boat to explore Khone Island, return to enjoy lunch amid French colonial-era structures, view Khong Pha Peng Waterfall (a.k.a. Niagara of the East), and transfer by road to Pakse for the night.
Day 9:
Free time until transfer to the airport for your flight to Vientiane, arriving in good time to connect with your departing international flight.
